Last chance to nominate H.E.R.O.s

Client news

Friday 28 July 2017 is the last day to nominate any unsung maritime heroes in the International Maritime Rescue Federation H.E.R.O (Honouring Excellence in Rescue Operations) Awards, visit www.imrfhero.org now, to enter your nomination before it’s too late.

Launched last year, the IMRF has already received nominations from around the world, from friends, family and work colleagues wanting to recognise people close to them who have done something exceptional in the field of search and rescue (SAR).

This year’s nominations are as international as last years and include nominations for teams, individuals and technological innovations that have all saved lives over the last year.  From dredging equipment and specialist expertise provided free of charge to any water related search and rescue team by Dregteam SOAD, part of the German National Team of Underwater, to the maritime safety ecosystem SafeTrx 2017 which links the technology behind SAR drones, satellite terminals, IoT devices, wearables, MOB devices and smartphones, allowing them all to interconnect and providing the most comprehensive SAR information possible.

From the National Sea Rescue WaterWise Academy in South Africa which has been teaching disadvantaged children about water safety, challenging South Africa’s annual statistic of the number of children expected to drown each year being enough to fill nine double decker buses, to acts of bravery such as Mr Joel Morgado from the U.S. Coast Guard Sector San Juan, who has been nominated for his role in saving 511 lives when cruise ship the Caribbean Fantasy caught fire or HM Coastguard Belfast who have been applauded for their professionalism, expertise, determination and refusal to give up when they instigated and conducted a seven hour search for a missing surfer who'd been in the water for at least 32 hours.

Bruce Reid, IMRF CEO says; “We have received nominations showcasing incredible examples of bravery and selflessness in the face of significant maritime dangers, alongside details of truly exciting and innovative new technologies which are being used to support and enhance SAR operations around the world.

“It is humbling to read the nominations, but we all feel incredibly glad that through the H.E.R.O Awards these people and organisations will get just some of the recognition and thanks for their amazing actions, which they so richly deserve."

Please if you know of someone or something that should be included in these award nominations -  head to the website and complete the nomination form as soon as possible – the closing date is Friday 28 July. People, organisations, innovations and technologies like these really do need to be recognised, if only to inspire the rest of us that amazing things really do happen at sea."

The closing date for nominations is 28 July, 2017 and there are four categories in the IMRF H.E.R.O Awards 2017;

• Individual award recognising outstanding contribution by an individual in a maritime SAR operation
• Team award, recognising outstanding contribution by a team or teams in the maritime SAR ecosystem working together to save lives, sponsored by Orolia/McMurdo.
• Innovation and Technology award recognising new products and technologies developed that improve the work and success of SAR organisations.
• The Vladimir Maksimov Lifetime achievement award recognising outstanding service to SAR by an individual or organisation, sponsored by Inmarsat.

Nominations can be made online at www.imrfhero.org alternatively email hero@imrf.org.uk or call +44 (0)1569 767405 for an application form.

The H.E.R.O. Awards 2017 recognise actions that took place, or were completed, in the period from 01 July 2016 to 30 June 2017. Any individual or organisation anywhere in the world can be nominated for a H.E.R.O Award.

All of the submissions will then be assessed by the judges and the winners announced at an awards dinner held at the RNLI, Poole in the UK and online, 2 November, 2017.

The H.E.R.O awards 2017 are supported by IMRF lead sponsor Orolia/McMurdo - global leader in emergency response and readiness and sponsor Inmarsat – global satellite owner and operator which provides mobile and fixed communications services to the maritime industry.
