As experts in the global maritime sector with a wide circle of senior level contacts and hands-on experience of policy making at the highest level, we were asked to provide communications counsel and support to Mr Ki-tack Lim and his team during his election campaign to become IMO Secretary General.
Mr Lim was Korea’s representative in a high profile and tightly contested election comprising six well qualified candidates. With lobbying and negotiations being conducted at the highest government and international circles, it was important for the Korean delegation to appoint a communications agency with credibility and experience of operating at a senior level.
Our initial counsel focused on positioning our candidate as a credible, highly qualified individual with significant relevant experience. This was achieved through the production of a dedicated website, brochure and accompanying awareness campaign.
Using our personal relationships with senior editors and journalists we were able to successfully raise Mr Lim’s profile within the maritime and business media to ensure his view was always sought on relevant IMO and industry issues.
Our knowledge of the media allowed us to engineer one-to-one interviews between Mr Lim and senior editors. Subsequent profile articles clearly established Mr Lim’s credentials and positioned him optimally for the election.
Throughout the campaign, we provided counsel on media engagement, interview response and other related issues.
Mr Ki-tack Lim was successfully elected to the prestigious position as Secretary General to the IMO
