Halcyon launches a new approach to maritime recruitment

Client news

International maritime recruitment specialist Halcyon has launched a new hybrid-executive search and recruitment service. Taking the essential elements of a headhunting approach, Halcyon’s SearchLite is designed to deliver a more affordable search service for the maritime market and provides businesses with access to a huge range of potential candidates for their senior, hard to fill and niche positions.

“There’s a big difference between contingency recruitment and search,” explains Halcyon Chief Executive Officer Heidi Heseltine. “Search is about defining the role, understanding the company’s culture and strategy and identifying and approaching people who we evaluate as being best for the role and the company’s culture. Contingent recruitment for hard to fill, senior or niche roles doesn’t work as it doesn’t guarantee full market coverage to source the best talent.  A traditional executive search is often viewed as too costly and also there are elements of it that are not of tangible benefit to the client. SearchLite sits between contingent recruitment and the traditional search – our focus being purely on building and implementing strategies to deliver a dynamic selection of world class candidates from which we work with our clients to identify the best person for the job.”

The SearchLite service is offered from Halcyon’s Singapore and UK offices and covers a range of senior, commercial, operational and technical roles across the maritime industry.

In a separate move, the fast-growing recruiter has announced the appointment of two new senior consultants to its UK and Singapore teams.

Amy Kilmer joins the Singapore office having previously held a senior chartering position with Dutch chemical tanker owner Ace Tankers, as well as having held commercial positions with Chem Tankers, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and most recently maritime technology company ShipNet. Amy will help further develop Halcyon’s presence in the commercial maritime sector as well as grow its maritime technology business.

Rhiannon May will be based in Glasgow, UK and will focus on Naval Architecture and Engineering positions for the marine, offshore and renewables sectors. She has over eight years of recruitment experience, and a track record of delivering difficult technical engineering projects across the globe as well as supporting clients in niche areas such as efficiency and autonomous technologies.
