New Hire To Lead MarineTraffic Commercial Focus

Client news

Global shipping intelligence platform MarineTraffic has appointed a new Head of Sales to spearhead an international drive for more enterprise clients in the maritime, insurance, finance and logistics sectors. Vlassis Papapanagis will be based in Athens from where he will lead and grow the company's sales force.

Vlassis Papapanagis has a 20-year track-record of working in big data software and consulting sales roles, including experience in the UK, USA and Greece with large organisations such as SPSS, IBM, PREDICTA Greece and data specialist Dun & Bradstreet. A computer scientist by background, he has a Bachelors degree in Information Technology from the Athens University of Economics & Business (Greece) and a Master's degree in Business with Information Technology from Salford University (UK).

Commenting on the appointment MarineTraffic Managing Director Dimitris Memos said:

"We are delighted to welcome Vlassis to the team! Over the past years we've built a great product which has helped transform the way in which the global maritime business functions. We've achieved this through a commitment to transparency and quality information. While we continue to innovate and grow the MarineTraffic platform, in 2019 we will be working harder to demonstrate the added commercial value that our solutions can provide to maritime businesses, through our strategic sales efforts and geographical expansion. I'm really looking forward to working with Vlassis and his team, and continuing to grow our business together!."

Vlassis Papapanagis said:

"In MarineTraffic I see a very exciting challenge: the company has a sound technical background, a solid data-set, a real commitment to R&D and huge ambition. The company already provides extensive services to dozens of major commercial organisations and I want to grow this count significantly. My role will be to work closely with larger businesses, providing them with data-led solutions tailored to their needs as well as growing our international sales team and commercial footprint."

MarineTraffic has grown significantly from its 2007 origins as a vessel tracking website to a shipping intelligence provider used to improve decision making across every segment of the maritime sector. The company has partnered with a wide range of organisations including UNCTAD, International Maritime Organisation, Ports of Rotterdam and Singapore and is helping to achieve greater ship efficiency and reduced environmental impacts in the maritime industry. Over 6.5 million users visit marinetraffic.com every month and the service records over 90,000 vessel voyages per day. The company employs over 100 at its offices in Athens (Greece), Oxford (UK) and Singapore.
